How to: Public Comment

To speak in person, you must complete a YELLOW Public Comment Card and present it to the City Clerk before the public comment period commences. No late cards will be accepted once the period starts.

Your allowed speaking time depends heavily on how many total speaker cards are turned in before the comment period begins:

• 1 to 20 speakers: 3 minutes each

• 21 to 39 speakers: 2 minutes each

• 40+ speakers: 1 minute each

We recommend having different versions of your comment ready in case time is limited.

Alternative Option (Call-In): If you cannot speak in person but still want to voice your thoughts live, you can call (818) 238-3335 when the public comment period opens to enter the queue.

Written Comment: If you cannot make the meeting, the last option to weigh in would be via written public comment. In advance of the meeting, email citycouncil@burbankca.gov with your thoughts. You can reference the agenda item to ensure it's included alongside it, or just speak in general. You can also submit an eComment, which you can find instructions on the Burbank Agendas webpage. We'll often create templates you can use to get your comments started in our email campaigns.

What to say

We recommend making comments personal. City Council will often have a ton of data points thrown at them, and while we always love to include data, personal anecdotes can go a long way to change minds. How will the topic or agenda item affect you? How will Burbank improve from your perspective? Council wants to hear from all perspectives, so your thoughts are important and valued.
